I stumbled upon Craig Stephens paintings by accident as I was looking for pictures of avocados that are more creative than the usual photos and his work immediately appeals to me not least because of their subject matter (mostly still-lifes of ordinary things found in the kitchen and about the house) but also because his brush strokes remind me of the works of Post Impressionist artists in the early part of the twentieth century, notably Paul Cezanne, who happened to be one of my favourite painters. I've posted some here for your enjoyment however, since Craig is very productive (he does a painting a day) it might interest you to visit his website. Who knows there may be some that take your fancy. I have also posted some of my favourite paintings in the World Best Photography Gallery in this magazine. Please go to Photography Gallery Section.
Craig Stephens is an artist living in Northern California. In 1993 he graduated from U.C. Davis where he took classes from Wayne Thiebaud, Dave Hollowell and Roy DeForest. He currently teaches art at Chana High School in Auburn California. On his blog he posts a painting a day, every day. According to him there are times when the paintings don't work out so well, however, he still posts them as he thinks seeing failed experiments is part of the fun. These paintings are available on eBay or via paypal on this blog. Be sure to check my "Available Paintings" link. Craig also writes and draws comic books. You can check those out at workingstiffcomics.com.
