
As you readers have probably noticed this site loves anything to do with stuff, people and happenings that nourish the mind and feed the soul. And if it has something to do with Avocados, well, we simply go gaga over it!
So when we hear there is a band down under called The Avocado Theory, then we can't resist discovering more about it and what kind of music they perform (covers, modern and retro apparently). Below is detail of the band members. May be one of these days they will come and play in Jakarta!
The Avocado Theory Brenda-Lee Heathcote has been singing in cover bands, trioʼs, duoʼs, solo all of her life. This multi award winning vocalist and renowned Australian songwriter can thump out just about any style of song you would want to hear. Her long list of credits include being lead singer of 80ʼs popular top 40 band “Trax”, supporting bands such as The Divinyls., Hoodoo Guruʼs, Mondo Rock, The Troggs, Richard Clapton and more. She was also a lead singer and keyboard player of 90ʼs top 40 band “RoadRunner” Most recent bands include “Brenda- Lee and the Machine” and “Brenda-Lee and the Twang Gang”.
She was the 2007 recipient for the “Rudy Brandsma Award” for excellence in songwriting in the National ASAI Awards held in Sydney. She has been a “Starmaker Finalist” , shared the stage with the likes of Ross Wilson, Bill Chambers and more, and has been nominated for inclusion in the “Whoʼs Who of Australian Women” for the 2009 edition. She has her own publishing label, “Meat Pie Music”
Scott Shelly has done more than most could even wish to. He grew up in Hollywood USA, and has toured,playing keyboards and guitar for the likes of all time legends Boz Scaggs, Dan Fogelberg, Randy Meisner (ex-Eagles) Albert Collins (Blues legend).and more.
Scott is also a renowned composer, and since his time living in Australia (around 9 years now) he has written music for around 80 episodes of the “Crocodile Hunter” series, “Croc Diaries” and many other shows, documentaries, short films, and interactive games. He recently produced Brenda-Leeʼs latest cd “Light of Hope” which is receiving airplay world-wide. He has a production studio, creating music for advertising, tv, radio, and games. He owns his own production company “Resonance Array.”
Peter Leighton is one of the masters of the beat. Heʼs drummed for Stevie Wright, “Buffalo”, “The Buckarooʼs” Jeff ST John, and supports such as “The Pointer Sisters”. One of the most solid, professional and tasteful drummers working the circuit these days. Peter, Scott and Brenda-Lee have been performing together in various outfits for a few years now
Rohan Belton comes originally from Adelaide, playing in several bands on the infamous “Greasy Pop Records” label throughout the 80ʼs. He played bass in “The Handmedowns” and “Dust Collection” and keyboards in “The Garden Path”, the latter of the two bands achieving notoriety in ʻ85 when they were selected for Triple J comp album “Cooking With George MK 11”. Rohan still travels back to Adelaide for gigs with “Dust Collection”. “Garden Path” had an Aussie #3 album charter in ʻ86 with “5 Reasons”, and an ARIA nomination.
They toured with “The Go-Betweens” and “Died Pretty” and supported bands such as Hoodoo Gurus, The Saints and INXS. Recently Rohan has fronted Repenta and Trailer Park, two Gold Coast bands, as guitarist and vocalist. He and his wife Amanda own indi label “Smashed Records” specialising in powerpop, garage, and pop/funk bands. Releases include US indi queen, Liz Phair, Dom Mariani, Brian Canham (Pseudo Echo) and The Stems. Rohan is playing bass and some vocals in “The Avocado Theory.”
