Desi Anwar

Desi Anwar’s television career serves as a road map for all aspiring journalists. As Metro TV’s senior anchor, Anwar hosts the network’s major economic and special programs, along with serving as GM Markting and Business Development. Desi is Editor and Founder of the Daily Avocado.


She began her career as an anchor/reporter with Indonesia’s first commercial television station RCTI in 1990. Among other programs, she hosted “Seputar Indonesia,” “Nuansa Pagi,” “Buletin Siang” and “Buletin Malam.” Anwar also served as executive producer and anchor of RCTI’s daily English-language news program “Indonesia Liputan Khusus.”

Desi Anwar was voted “Best News Presenter” by Citra Tabloid for three consecutive years (1994 – 1997). She also won the Panasonic Award for “Best News Presenter” in 1997 and 1998. In 1998, she was nominated as “Best Anchor/Presenter” by the Asian Television Awards. And she was a nominee for the Panasonic Award “Best News Presenter” in 2004.

Born in Bandung, Desi Anwar holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Sussex, and a master of arts degree from the University of London. She speaks Bahasa Indonesia, English and French.

She's also a keen photographer and amateur sculptor who has exhibited her works and published a book of photography and writings on her travels called 'A Romantic Journey.'

Currently Senior Anchor and Journalist at Metro TV, also GM Marketing and Business Development. Have been in the Media and Broadcast Industry since 1990 starting with RCTI (Indonesia's first independent TV) as Reporter, Anchor and Executive Producer; co-founder of Astaga.com before joining Metro TV as Consultant and trainer when the station first aired in 2000. I host a weekly talkshow on economic issues 'Economic Challenges with Desi Anwar', Also columnist for English publications Tempo English and The Jakarta Post. Desi is the Founder, Editor and Content Provider of the online magazine The Daily Avocado.
